Is Rick Perry OK with Open Marriages?

by

Today Texas Gov. Rick Perry ended his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination and threw his support behind former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia. Perry’s withdrawal from the race wasn’t a big surprise — his support in polls was very low after a series of embarrassing stumbles and gaffes over the past few months.

On the other hand, Perry’s endorsement of Gingrich is at least a little surprising. The Texas governor had aggressively courted conservative evangelical voters throughout a campaign that began just after he hosted a large prayer rally in a Houston football stadium last August. Perry had repeatedly pointed to his positions on social issues, including his desire to “protect” traditional marriage by opposing same-sex unions. But he decided to support thrice-married Gingrich anyway.

Moreover, just before today’s announcement, ABC News released an excerpt of an interview with one of Gingrich’s former wives. She says Gingrich had asked her for an open marriage so that he could continue an affair with the woman who would become his third (and current) wife.

From the ABC News interview (video available at the link):

In her most provocative comments, the ex-Mrs. Gingrich said Newt sought an “open marriage” arrangement so he could have a mistress and a wife.

She said when Gingrich admitted to a six-year affair with a Congressional aide, he asked her if she would share him with the other woman, Callista, who is now married to Gingrich.

“And I just stared at him and he said, ‘Callista doesn’t care what I do,'” Marianne Gingrich told ABC News. “He wanted an open marriage and I refused.”

We don’t expect Gov. Perry to police Newt Gingrich’s marital bedroom, of course. In fact, we’d prefer that politicians focus on their own families instead of interfering in the personal lives of other folks. But we do wonder whether Gov. Perry thinks adultery and open marriages are as threatening to “traditional marriage” as a same-sex couple living in a legally recognized, loving and committed relationship allegedly is. Isn’t that a fair question now?

Perry is just showing his true colors, hypocrisy.

  2. Doc Bill Says:

In yet another “Oops!” moment Perry has thrown in with his exact opposite: Newt!
    How ironic is that?

Perry’s closest soul mate still in the game is that pious pile of bigoted baloney, Santorum. Of course, Mitt is a Mormon so that endorsement is DOA. But, Newt?

Rick “Goodie Two Shoes” Perry is supporting wife-cheating, ethically-challenged, fake-pious, Washington political insider, racially bigoted Newt? Well, as if there was any doubt, we now know exactly what Rick Perry stands for: nothing.

Yes but now hes coming back to texas to give us another “dose” of fraudulent creation “science”.
Some faiths argue that the fact that life evolved on the planet conflicts with their religious views, other faiths
say it doesn’t. Both views however, are religious, not scientific in nature. The validity of the evolution science documented in hundreds of thousands of papers and studies by the scientific community worldwide is not effected by either view, whatsoever. Creation science and intelligent design are fraud, unsupported by any testable hypotheses or data despite numerous requests by the national Academy of Sciences that the creationist groups
    bring forth some publishable science.

Nudge nudge wink wink, maybe a GOP conservative will actually read and think about this post …………..

    naaah!!

    lol

First Rick couldn’t get the Lord to stave off the worst Texas drought in history, then he couldn’t get the Lord to come through on the Republican nomination (even though he claims to have been called), but now he gets out of the race just in time to throw his support to his old buddy Newt. Has he made a deal with Old Scratch Gingrich for the VP slot?

  5. dbtexas Says:

Oh no! Rick is coming back to Texas!

  6. Gary Cooper, McAllen, Texas Says:

I’m not interested in Newt Gingrich’s sexual behavior– that’s between him and his many wives and lovers and their families.
But it’s too much even for me that Newt was pushing for Bill Clinton to be impeached for dalliance with a much-younger White House employee AT THE SAME TIME as Gingrich was carrying on an affair with a much-younger Congressional employee.

    Apparently irony is dead.

  7. Doc Bill Says:

Well, I think the bottom line is that Rick Perry supports open marriages, having mistresses, unethical political behavior, pandering and all the other stuff that is Newt.

Make no mistake, Rick Perry is now Newt Perry and all the bad stuff associated with Newt is now ENDORSED by Perry. All of it. Lobbying, sex out of marriage, pandering, bigotry and all the rest.

Rick Perry endorses this behavior which means he has capitulated his entire set of ethics and morality to that of Newt Gingrich.

Yes, thank you Rick Perry for telling us once and for all and very clearly that you stand for NOTHING.

Please, Rick, retire and slink away to the pandering pond of slime you live in and leave us alone.
