The First Amendment: For Christians Only?

by

Bryan Fischer, radio talk show host for the especially odious far-right group American Family Association, has written a new opinion piece that starts with this: “The First Amendment was written by the Founders to protect the free exercise of Christianity.” It all goes laughably downhill from there.

But what about people of other faiths? Maybe Muslims?

“Islam has no fundamental First Amendment claims, for the simple reason that it was not written to protect the religion of Islam. Islam is entitled only to the religious liberty we extend to it out of courtesy. While there certainly ought to be a presumption of religious liberty for non-Christian religious traditions in America, the Founders were not writing a suicide pact when they wrote the First Amendment.”

You can find the rest of the piece here.

Sorry, you can’t comment on his site. But on ours you can.

Eventually his funding sources will dry up. As his source of income shrinks, he’ll get more and more desperately outrageous, until he’s finally silent.

Not likely. This pitch is not uniquely Herr Fischer’s. It is part and parcel of a propaganda campsign not seen in this country since before it was settled. One has to go back to the Tudors and the Stuarts to see a well integrated campaign like this.

Not even the so-called “anti-war” propaganda was as well and tightly organized as this. No matter what tentacle of this multipus is touched, the messages are consitent in themes, symbols, and buzz words.

I am not a believer in evil plots as usually one or another of the plotters can’t resist a bit on back stabbery. Adolf Hitler’s modus operandi in controlling Nazi propaganda was to keep the ownership of the means of propaganda divided. Goebbels was a pitchman, but did not control the media. Stalin never trusted anyone, and kept the Red Army, the secret police, and the party at odds with each other.

Unlike Hitler and Stalin, the spider in the center of this web is not in plain sight. The usual suspects of corporate America, Military-Industrial cabal, or the like don’t qualify as monster in chief.

One thing for sure, it/he/her can’t stand the full light of day.

Why don’t these people read their history? Gordon, you are so right about the real forces behind this. It’s not these public hate spewers. They are the puppets.

  4. Eric Hetvile Says:

I never realized how many of my fellow Americans were off-the-wall insane until I started reading TFN.
    Thanks.

    I think.

  5. Nick Says:

    Someone should send him this:

“As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.”

    Treaty of Tripoli.

By one of those Founding Fathers he claims intended to do almost the exact opposite. Unanimously ratified in 1797.

Holy crap, if you will pardon the expression. Add Brian Fischer, another ignorant fool, to the list of people that make idiotic statements about what the 1st Amendment means. Why are so many talk radio show hosts such liars and/or morons? It speaks volumes about the mentality of those who listen to them and agree with them.

  7. Gordon S Fowkes Says:

One gets nowhere in calling idiots by their first name, or ignorance by their last. They revel in the publicity. Being ignorant is a badge of honor, for being singled out by an intellectual is exactly what they want. It’s like the Nazi’s cjamt of Sieg Heil, and Heil Hitler that did not intimidate the Allies, it only added incentive for the Allies to end that aberration.

They love argument so they can toss biblical quotes at each other, the more abstruse the better. Name calling is counter productive. It is what is called the direct approach to battle.

The indirect approach uses their strengths against them at attacks the weal points. Their foundations are in the Bible, and it is biblical research that can pull their blasphemy down.

Taking the Lord’s name in vain doesn’t mean bad mouthing God, or the Bible. It consists of using the Word in anger and for profit.

  8. Charles Says:

    It’s Zargon.

He is the gray alien that rules the United States with an iron hand while remaining obscure and well-hidden in shadow places. The last real President of the United States in the traditional American sense was John F. Kennedy. Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower had known about the alien presence since the late 1940s and had participated in cultural exchanges between Earth and their planet. In the waning days of the Eisenhower administration, the aliens became upset with Washington (like everyone else does) and concluded that they must step in to manage our affairs and prevent worldwide nuclear warfare. They assumed power from the shadows in the waning days of the Eisenhower administration when the old man, weakened by heart disease, was on the way out and unable to mount any resistance. He attempted, albeit cryptically, to warn us about this issue with his famous statement about the rising power of the military-industrial complex: 1) Because the U.S. military was the first arm of government to make contact with the aliens, which gave them a special seat at the table with the aliens; 2) Because the American military-industrial complex coveted alien technology. John F. Kennedy revolted in horror on his first day in office after he was led into the “inner sanctum” and introduced to Zargon, a very direct and emotionless personality who made it quite clear that he would be in charge henceforth and that Kennedy would be a puppet. Kennedy resisted Zargon for nearly three years through a well-conceived program of deceit and passive aggression, engineered and executed on the sly by Robert Kennedy and Kenny O’Donnell. Zargon grew tired of the resistance games in late 1963 and had Kennedy killed as a matter of convenience and to send a message to future Presidents of the United States.

Zargon has been in control of our country and much of the world since that time. In particular, he was responsible for the demise of the Soviet Union in 1991. Many consider it a miracle that a totalitarian nation with a strong militaristic attitude would fall so peacefully in a nearly bloodless revolution. This was no accident. Zargon offered the Soviet government a simple choice. Dissolve or be destroyed in a single night by alien technology millions of years more advanced than anything on Earth. They had no choice. Resistance was clearly futile after this technology was demonstrated in a controlled environment for Mikhail Gorbachev, Boris Yeltsin, a select subcommittee of the ruling Politburo, and a contingent of military observers and soldier participants. Little is known about the details of this meeting, and most of the participants are dead now.

In spite of the secrecy surrounding the demonstration, some information about it was leaked in the late 1990s. Reports say that Gorbachev was angry at being led blind to this demonstration because he had booked a whole day of meetings with various officials on agricultural production issues and the latest 5-Year Plan. During the demonstration, he fainted when 300 Soviet soldiers in various remote locations were simultaneously vaporized in the blink of an eye. Zargon made it clear that this could be done simultaneously to every living being and structure in the Soviet Union within five seconds. Boris Yeltsin was stunned and spent the rest of the night pickling himself with three large bottles of Stolichnaya. Gorbachev, although in a state of shock, remained defiant. Yeltsin, knowing that the end was near and always being a take charge individual, insisted that Gorbachev take a short vacation to a Black Sea resort while he negotiated with Zargon to bring the Soviet state to a peaceful close.

How do I know this? This information came from a close Hungarian immigrant friend of mine who worked at the Marshall Space Flight Center and the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. In the early 1990s, he was the last member of a Hungarian military attache (Technical Division) posted in an exchange program with the Red Army in Moscow. Since the fall of the Iron Curtain a couple of years earlier, the Hungarian government had been slowly recalling the members of his attache group, which made him the last on post in Moscow. Because he had a high security clearance and was close friends with one of the Soviet officers, he became one of the military observation staff for the demonstration. In the horror and emotional chaos that ensued immediately after the demonstration, my friend managed to steal a small microchip device that contained official records and digital photographs on the demonstration. After snapping it up, he slipped it into one of the socks he was wearing. He was later able to leave the country with this device because Soviet security procedures had become increasingly more relaxed during the glasnost years leading up to 1991. When back in Hungary, he was able to use his connections in the dissolving communist government to find a device to read the stored information and print it off onto paper. My friend died in 2007, shortly after showing me the papers, and I am one of only seven people who know where these papers were stored after his death. The seven of us are friends and remain in frequent touch. If any of us dies mysteriously or disappears under suspicious circumstances, several secret individuals outside of our group have agreed to retrieve the papers in accordance with directions left in a secret place that only they know. The papers and photographs, including one photograph of Zargon himself, will be sent, along with a full explanation, to selected reporters at the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Cleveland Plain Dealer, and Miami Herald.

    Remember the name people: ZARGON

  9. Gordon S Fowkes Says:

Help is on the way. We know where you are hiding, Charles

  10. Cara Waits Says:

The First Amendment wasn’t written to protect “Christians” either. This far-right thinking is so absurd, I can’t believe it has been given any creedence. Clearly, our society has failed to teach American History along with critical thinking skills.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” — The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution
“The First Amendment was written because at America’s inception, citizens demanded a guarantee of their basic freedoms.” – source: http://www.firstamendmentcenter.org/about.aspx?item=about_firstamd

  11. Gordon S Fowkes Says:

The Law of Inverse Attribution holds that one side will tout it’s weakest virtue, and blame the other with it;s own worse vice. The the claim of the RR aka Divie Right, to protect the Constitution is, at best, their weakest attribute. By blaming Islam as a political philosphyinherenly and unniquely a violoent cause bent on snding the Constitution clearly identifies the core of Rightious intent … to emasculate the Constitution, by force and violence.

  12. Charles Says:

Some so-called “strict constructionists” on the far right have argued that abridging freedom of the press applies only to printed materials and that the federal government has every right to abridge all other forms of information media.

By the way, in my long post above, I was just demonstrating that Bryan Fischer is not the only person on this planet that can weave a crock historically couched bull*hit. Which do you like better, his or mine?
